Nintendo, the Japanese video game maker behind the Super Mario and Pokemon franchises, is reporting an 18.6% surge in net profit for the first fiscal quarter on the back of strong demand for its new Switch 2 console.

The videogame maker said it had sold more than 6 million units of the console since its early June launch and is now boosting production due to strong demand.

Sales for the Nintendo Switch 2 consoles have reached 5.82 million, the Japan-based video game giant revealed along with its earnings results Friday.
