To win the largest lottery prize of the year so far, a Powerball ticket buyer has to overcome astronomical odds of 1 in 292.2 million.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.6 million, and it's those low odds that enable the game to trundle along without a winner for months.

Mega Million said the jackpot was last won in Illinois on June 4, with a ticket valued at $552 million. Since then, there have been 27 drawings, but no jackpot prize winners.

This marks the 10th time that a Mega Millions lottery jackpot was won in Virginia since the game launched 23 years ago
