Aguilar entered the transfer portal in April and landed at Tennessee, creating a de facto quarterback trade between the Vols and Bruins.

Iamaleava transferred from Tennessee to UCLA in April. As a result of that move, former Appalachian State quarterback Joey Aguilar, who transferred to UCLA after the 2024 season, left the Bruins to join the Vols' quarterback room.

The whole process, unsurprisingly, was quite chaotic for Aguilar. That's in part because UCLA head coach Deshaun Foster reportedly wasn't very "forthcoming" with Aguilar during the Iamaleava saga.
