Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday is set to hold a news conference with Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Director Dave Kerner in Tallahassee.

Gov. Ron DeSantis and the leaders of the Republican-led Legislature haven’t come to a consensus on the immigration bill passed last week. In the meantime, the governor announced on Friday an agreement with the federal government that he said would deputize Florida Highway Patrol troopers,

"This agreement will give FHP expanded power and authority to interrogate any suspected alien or person believed to be an alien" in the U.S., DeSantis said.
