Erin may strengthen into a major Category 3 hurricane Wednesday night, forecasters say. The worst impacts at the Jersey Shore will occur on Thursday.

Hurricane Erin is expected to parallel the Eastern Seaboard through Friday, bringing the threat of dangerous surf and rip currents, coastal flooding and gusty conditions to parts of the Northeast.

A coastal flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Atlantic County at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
