Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned Pakistan that India will punish its neighbor if there are future attacks on India as he marked 78 years of independence from British colonial rule. Modi’s remarks Friday come three months after nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan engaged in four days of intense fighting,
"Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan's stock-in-trade," India 's External Affairs Ministry said in a public statement on its website. "It is also regrettable that these remarks should have been made from the soil of a friendly third country."
Pakistan will create a new force in the military to supervise missile combat capabilities in a conventional conflict, apparently a move to match neighbouring arch-rival India.
A provincial emergency service spokesperson says a massive cloudburst triggered flash floods in northwestern Pakistan and has killed at least 157 people, including women and children.
Pakistan's military infrastructure continues to be reeling from the impact of India's precision strikes under Operation Sindoor.
“By repeatedly endorsing Pakistan and ignoring India’s core concerns, Trump has eroded two decades of mutual trust, likening the setback to a return to Cold War–era suspicion and strategic distance,” the report quoted a senior Indian diplomat as saying.
India and Pakistan have been placed together in Group A along with Oman and UAE, and could face each other thrice over the course of the continental tournament that returns to the T20I format this year.
