Barry, the second named storm of this year's Atlantic hurricane season, became a tropical depression by Sunday night, when it made landfall shortly before 11 p.m. ET. It made landfall over Mexico's east coast about 15 miles south-southeast of Tampico, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami.

MEXICO CITY — Flossie has strengthened into a hurricane off Mexico's southwestern Pacific coast. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Flossie became a Category 1 hurricane Monday night and has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph.

U.S. forecasters say the weakening and ill-defined depression came ashore south of Tampico with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
