Movie and entertainment giant Lionsgate (NYSE:LGF.A) (NYSE:LGF.B) and AI startup Runway have agreed to a partnership where Runway will help create and train a new AI model that will be used for Lionsgate’s proprietary portfolio of film and television content,

The Hollywood studio will give the tech company access to its library of movies and shows in exchange for a custom-built AI model.

"AI won't save Hollywood, it will only destroy it," the producer Marc Blitstein wrote, while the filmmaker Hayden Hewitt predicted that Lionsgate intended to train only on property they own so they can "copyright the lukewarm vomit that comes out the other end".

Lionsgate, the studio behind popular films series’ like The Hunger Games and John Wick, recently announced it’s letting a startup mine its catalog works with the goal of creating an AI model capable of creating storyboards and other pre- and post-production work.

The Lionsgate deal establishes how AI is rapidly becoming an important tool throughout the filmmaking process, from initial conceptualization to final post-production.
