For the 78th edition of the world's most prestigious film festival, organisers have made one thing clear: the red carpet is no longer a free-for-all fashion fantasy. Among the most talked-about rules is an explicit ban on "naked dresses". This means no more sheer, see-through gowns that have become red carpet staples in recent years.
Model Bella Hadid has become the queen of Cannes in recent years thanks to her jaw-dropping looks, which have included a slit-up-to-there red Alexandre Vauthier gown from 2016 that now makes her “embarrassed” as well as the striking Schiaparelli couture gown she wore in 2021 that eschewed a top in favor of gold “lungs.”
Cannes Film Festival premieres often require tuxedos and bow ties to attend, but this year, the fest clarified that no nudity or long gowns will be allowed.
