KARACHI (Web Desk) - A delegation of the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport and Civil Aviation Authority began a safety audit of Pakistan’s aviation standards on Wednesday, a civil aviation spokesperson confirmed, ahead of the resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights between the two countries.
On May 22, 2020, a PIA Airbus A320 aircraft was operating a domestic flight from Lahore to Karachi when the plane crashed into a crowded residential area near its destination. Of the 99 people on board, 97 lost their lives, while two survived with injuries. The crash also injured eight people on the ground, one of whom later died.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is making progress toward resuming direct flights to the UK as the British Civil Aviation Authority conducts a safety audit. The British High Commission will also hold training sessions for FIA and airline staff to ensure compliance with UK security and immigration standards.
The resumption of direct flights to the UK and the expansion to other international destinations is expected to benefit travelers significantly. By reintroducing key routes and improving its services, PIA aims to reconnect Pakistan with the world, offering enhanced travel options for both business and leisure.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announces a 10% discount on flights from Toronto to Pakistan. Passengers can book by February 9 to avail the offer, with travel valid from February 9 to May 20, 2025.
