The Dallas Mavericks traded their star guard, Luka Doncic, to the Los Angeles Lakers as part of a three-team deal. The Lakers received Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris from the Mavericks in this trade.

Two Mavericks starters from last year's NBA Finals are on different teams, and Doncic thinks they played well together.

In the offseason of 2022, the Mavericks refused to over breakout guard Jalen Brunson a $55 million contract. The season before, he excelled, but the Mavs didn't want to commit to him long-term, thinking that Doncic would be able to handle the backcourt by himself.
