Powell Co. Judge Executive Eddie Barnes said ending the country’s agreement with RedSTAR Wilderness EMS was far from an abrupt decision.

STANTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — It’s not out of the ordinary for rescues to take place in Red River Gorge. Powell County Search and Rescue and RedSTAR Wilderness EMS often join forces to save the day.

An agreement between RedSTAR Wilderness EMS and Powell County was abruptly terminated Friday morning.

“I am personally not that religious, but ‘miracle’ is the word that comes to mind,” David Fifer, an advanced practice paramedic with RedSTAR Wilderness, said.
