Columbia University student Mohsen Mahdawi — detained by authorities at his naturalization interview — is free for now. He had been in prison for two weeks after his arrest earlier in April.

While attending Columbia, Mahdawi organized demonstrations protesting the war in Israel. He did so from October 2023 to March 2024. Police were not involved in the protests until the following April.

Mohsen Mahdawi is a Columbia University student and Palestinian activist who was arrested in Vermont by immigration agents last month at what he was told would be a citizenship interview.
