The Pirates were able to put an ugly weekend series behind them on Monday night at PNC Park, giving Paul Skenes some early run support ahead of his six scoreless innings to beat the Tigers, 3-0.

Facing the American League Central-leading Detroit Tigers, Skenes worked out of a third-inning jam by blowing a 99 mph fastball on the inner half past Gleyber Torres for a strikeout. It was the kind of moment that lights up a crowd and gives Pirates fans something to rally behind.

The only thing worse than the Pittsburgh Pirates’ restriction on Paul Skenes’ innings Sunday was the support of that action from a (far too large) segment of the team’s remaining fanbase. A segment that is apparently even more brainwashed than I suspected.
