A heat wave gripping the Pacific Northwest has prompted an extreme heat warning in Oregon. How high will temperatures get?

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for much of the Portland metro area and an Excessive Heat Warning for southwest Oregon, prompting the City of Beaverton to open an after-hours cooling center and the office of emergency management to recommend several ways to stay cool.

In Southern Oregon, a separate extreme heat warning is in effect Friday through Monday for much of Jackson and Josephine counties. An extreme heat watch is in place Saturday afternoon through Wednesday evening for a large swath of north-central and northeast Oregon, including the Lower Columbia Basin and the Blue Mountains.
