Maria Sharapova honored at U.S. Open after Serena Williams inducts her into Tennis Hall of Fame
Sharapova was honored with an official U.S. Open ring Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, following her induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. She accepted her latest hardware in the latest rendition of the tennis dress that changed the sport. “New York City, what a special place and special court,” Sharapova said.
While Sharapova didn't have the kind of career her 2004 success seemingly portended, she went on to win 36 WTA events and was a silver medalist in women's singles at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
