Sean McVay insists he never seriously thought his partnership with Matthew Stafford would come to an end this month after four seasons together with the Los Angeles Rams.

"I think it's really kind of been a year-to-year thing. … As long as he wants to play," McVay said of being able to keep Stafford.

Sean McVay became head coach of the Los Angeles Rams at just 30 years old in 2017, so while he is still one of the NFL's youngest coaches at 39, he is a grizzled veteran at the same time. So far, McVay has resisted a very early retirement from coaching despite plenty of rumors that he may do so.
