Microsoft Excel sorts slider buttons alphabetically and numerically. Fortunately, you can add a custom sort list to sort the buttons in a more meaningful way, when necessary.

Not all sorts in Excel are alphabetical. Sometimes, you need to sort by an irregular set of terms, and when that happens, you need to create a custom sort. Here's how.

Click the "Sort Smallest to Largest" button to sort your numeric data in ascending order. The button is located within the "Sort & Filter" group on Excel's "Data" tab.
