The US drugmaker Eli Lilly has bowed to demands from Donald Trump by raising the prices of its weight-loss jab for UK customers.

Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk introduced its weight-loss drug Wegovy in South Africa on Thursday, marking its debut in Africa and stepping up competition with Eli Lilly's Mounjaro which launched in the country eight months ago.

The survey of 2,000 weight loss patients found that a doubling in price would see 80% coming off Mounjaro, with 51% switching to Wegovy and 29% – around 326,000 people – stopping their weight loss medication altogether.
