While international films used to be a rarity for Best Picture, the Oscars have been nominating at least one film not in English in the top category every year since 2018. Ahead, we take a look at some of the non-English language films that won Oscars outside of the International Feature Film category.

The award for best international film went to “I’m Still Here.” The film is based on a memoir by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, who wrote about the real-life experiences of his mother, Eunice Paiva, after his father was killed during the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 1970s.
