ATLANTA — In an eventful seven days for the Atlanta Braves that began with a win at the speedway in Bristol, Tenn., and ended with a series-clinching doubleheader sweep of the previously surging Miami Marlins, a pair of rookies gave Braves fans something to be excited about from the team’s woeful season.

On Friday, Braves outfielder Michael Harris II got a first look at all of his gear for Players’ Weekend. And there was a lot of it. The Scooby-Doo cleats. The Tom and Jerry sliding glove. And the bats.

Michael Harris II homered and doubled, Nacho Alvarez Jr. and Nick Allen each had three hits, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Cleveland Guardians 10-1 on Saturday night.

Harris was dropped to the bottom of the order, and the numbers told the story — in 348 plate appearances, he slashed just .210/.235/.317 with 14 extra-base hits (six home runs), 43 RBIs, and a 21% strikeout rate.

The Atlanta Braves center fielder's dominant run at the plate is putting him in striking distance of a franchise record
