Hurricane Erin formed Friday in the Atlantic Ocean on track to bring heavy rains that could lead to flooding and landslides in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, forecasters said.

Hurricane Erin, the first of the 2025 Atlantic season, is forecast to become a major storm this weekend, bringing heavy rain, flooding risk, and dangerous surf to parts of the Caribbean and western Atlantic.

The U.S. could see the landfall of its first hurricane this year in the coming weeks, as Tropical Storm Erin continues to build in the Atlantic. Current projections see the storm developing into a hurricane sometime in the next few days as it moves west across the ocean,
