Regional and state fire rescue crews on Monday continued to battle the Carolina Forest-area wildfires, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters across North and South Carolina continue to work to contain more than 170 wildfires that have ignited and spread throughout the states over the weekend.

The blazes were fueled by gusty winds, dry air and unusually high temperatures. The largest fire was burning 1,600 acres near Myrtle Beach.
