If you shop authorized dealers with solid reputations— Amazon, eBay, Walmart —you can exhale and know that the refurbished items you’re purchasing are in good working condition.

Next, look for a warranty that lasts for at least 30 days in case you run into an issue. eBay’s Certified Refurbished products are protected for two years.

EBay is expanding listings under refurbished electronics, luxury bags and watches, and the collectibles category. The company bought trading cards marketplace TCGplayer last year.

Dell offers a 100-day limited warranty. Individual eBay sellers offer warranties, too, as does the refurbished marketplace Back Market, so don’t be afraid to raise the question.
