A gunman opened fire in Atlanta on Friday afternoon near the campuses of both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory University, killing a police officer who was responding to calls of an active shooter,
Dr. Susan Monarez surveyed dozens of shattered windows on the eighth floor of Building 21 on the campus of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the gunman as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White, of Kennesaw, Georgia.
The man who fired more than 500 rounds at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention appears to have tried to get onto the agency’s campus two days before the August 8 shooting, according to an agency email obtained by CNN.
AFGE Local 2883 said some cuts include employees from the Division of Violence Prevention, which is intended to help prevent shootings.
