Braves pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach has been placed on the 15-day injured list after breaking his right elbow during a start last weekend.

With Jurickson Profar wrapping up his suspension for violating MLB's performance-enhancing drug policy, the Braves have decided to cut ties with Alex Verdugo.

Verdugo, 29, is now out of a job after signing a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Atlanta in late March, which followed a long offseason of searching for his next team. After spending the first few weeks in the minors, Verdugo was called up in mid-April, hitting .341/.396/.455 in 48 plate appearances through the first month.

Its Tuesday, July 1 and the Angels (41-42) are in Atlanta to open a series against the Braves (38-45). Tyler Anderson is slated to take the mound for Los Angeles against Didier Fuentes for Atlanta. The Braves step out of divisional play after last week's series against the Mets and the Phillies.
