The Tigers have shown some level of interest in Arizona third baseman Eugenio Suarez (a former Tiger), but that pursuit appears to have cooled. Suarez, while intriguing, doesn’t fit a pressing need. Detroit’s current third baseman, Matt Vierling, made the All-Star team and remains a strong clubhouse presence despite slumping in July.
According to Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press, not only are the Tigers not expected to add a third baseman, but they are also out on a pair of third basemen from the National League who could be trade options.
